Big Gay Love Story, the Musical

Big Gay Love Story, the Musical follows a group of friends living in Los Angeles as they try to navigate love in today’s confusing dating culture. The story centers around Mark and David, who have been together since college. We also meet their friends Sean, Jenna, and Peter, as well as a new face, Seth, who causes trouble for Mark and David right from the start. In spite of fights, breakups, hook ups, and new relationships, each character uncovers what they needed all along, whether it be a loving partner, or a true sense of self love.

Development

Big Gay Love Story, the Musical is based on a true story. I began writing the show in 2017 after a close friend of mine was heartbroken to find out that his boyfriend of several years had cheated on him. As an emerging songwriter, I wanted to give my friend, who is also a beautiful singer, a way to process his grief. I wrote a few ballads for him to sing that still remain in Big Gay Love Story today. From there, I began writing the script for a story based on what happened to my friend. The first staged reading took place in 2019 as part of Emerging Artist Theatre's New Works Series. It was subsequently rebroadcast during the pandemic in 2020 with the Queerly Festival at Frigid NY. After developing a second draft based on the feedback from those readings, it was accepted into the HOT! Festival of Queer Culture at Dixon Place, as well as the Queerly Festival at Frigid NY for a second time in 2022. I am currently developing the third full-length draft.
