The Fall
The Fall tells the story of how the iconic musical theatre character, The Emcee (Cabaret) became The Emcee. Inga is shining shoes to support herself on the streets of Berlin, when Olga takes her under her wing and introduces her to the cabaret scene. The two fall in love, but it doesn’t last. Olga leaves Inga, who falls into the darkness of addiction. A story of passion, unfulfilled desires, political unrest, and heartbreak, The Fall ends where Cabaret begins.
Development
The Fall is based on the personal backstory I created as I prepared to step into the shoes of the iconic musical theatre character, The Emcee (Cabaret) in 2017. I wrote the first draft during the beginning months of the pandemic for a submission for a 20-minute musical festival. While it wasn't selected for that festival, it was produced as a staged reading with The Lighthouse Series at The Soho Playhouse in 2023. I am currently developing the second draft.
